msnbc is #1 in a25-54 for weekday prime, beats fox news and cnn for 2nd week in a row

NEW YORK (January 16, 2018) – MSNBC remained on top as the #1 cable news network in A25-54 for weekday prime. This was the 2nd week in a row that MSNBC beat FOX News and CNN for the week, and the 14th week in a row MSNBC bested CNN, according to Nielsen data for the week of January 8-12. MSNBC prime averaged 557,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 511,000 and CNN’s 393,000). MSNBC prime more than doubled CNN’s viewership (2,557,000 vs. CNN’s 1,127,000 and FOX News’ 2,574,000).

In all of cable news, “The Rachel Maddow Show” was #1 in total viewers for the week and also maintained its #1 status in A25-54 for the 2nd week in a row. “Maddow” delivered its best week in A25-54 (since 6/5/17), averaging 706,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 565,000 and CNN’s 374,000). In total viewers, “Maddow” delivered its best week ever for the program and the network’s 2nd best week – after the 2016 Democratic National Convention (since 7/25/16). “Maddow” averaged 3,172,000 total viewers (vs. FOX News’ 2,803,000 and CNN’s 1,103,000).

“The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” beat FOX News and CNN at 10pm in A25-54 and total viewers. This was the 2nd week in a row that “The Last Word” bested its competition. “The Last Word” averaged 517,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 432,000 and CNN’s 401,000). Among total viewers, “The Last Word” averaged 2,447,000 (vs. FOX News’ 2,297,000 and CNN’s 1,096,000).

“The 11th Hour with Brian Williams” beat FOX News and CNN at 11pm in A25-54 and in total viewers. “The 11th Hour” averaged 356,000 viewers A25-54 (vs. FOX News’ 294,000 and CNN’s 302,000) and 1,619,000 total viewers (vs. FOX News’ 1,358,000 and CNN’s 843,000).

“Morning Joe” beat CNN in total viewers – for the 61st week in a row – and in A25-54 for the week. The program averaged 1,072,000 total viewers, nearly doubling CNN’s 594,000, and 243,000 viewers A25-54 (vs CNN’s 212,000).
